the story
Two buildings face each other on a block of abandoned, derelict tenements: one squatted at the request of the local community board to preserve the rotting housing stock, and another that wasn’t squatted but might as well have been, after a hustler takes rent from naïve newcomers and takes off, leaving them to take care of the building themselves.
Resentment brews on both sides of the block, and conflict ensues as the buildings compete for the attention of a location scout looking for a backdrop for a film shoot. But plans to create a garden out of a rubble-filled lot begin to thaw relationships, and when a menacing guru starts recruiting punks and runaway kids to his cult, squatters and renters unite to defeat the danger.
And when squatter boy meets renter girl, romance ensues.
All against the background of 80s rock, punk, new wave, no-wave, and hip-hop music.
